Network for Women in Science: The Scripps Florida Network for Women in Science was established to help build a sense of community among the women at Scripps Florida, to network and receive support, and to create a place for discourse on women’s issues (balancing career and family, selecting a career path, etc.). NWIS hosts monthly meetings, designed as informal opportunities to interact with established female researchers and life science professionals, discuss issues related to women in science, or to benefit from professional development seminars and workshops that can help inform and guide one’s scientific career.

The group meets every second Wednesday of the month, from 12-1 p.m. in B214 on the Scripps Florida campus. Examples of past gathering topics include: Networking 101, Ideas for Non-traditional Careers in the Life Sciences, Meet the PI, Balancing Work and Family, Best Practices in Social Networking, Holiday Potlucks, and Yoga Classes. For more information, go to the NWIS website.

Graduate Student Committee: This committee, comprised of graduate students from all class years of both the Chemistry and Biology Programs, represents the interests and concerns of the student body.

Toastmasters International: Toastmasters is a learn-by-doing workshop in which participants hone their speaking and leadership skills in a no-pressure atmosphere. Meetings are once per week. Learn how to enhance your public speaking skills, improve English as a second language and develop your leadership skills.

Society of Research Fellows: The Scripps Florida Society of Research Fellows (SF-SRF) is a nonprofit, all volunteer organization whose goal is to enhance the professional, academic, and social lives of postdocs within Scripps Florida. In part, we strive to achieve these goals through organizing various professional and social events. These events are designed to provide a networking platform for career development and to foster a sense of community among the diverse set of postdocs at TSRI.

Scripps Consulting Club: Scripps Consulting Club is a TSRI student- and postdoc- run club with a mission to provide training and resources towards pursuing management consulting or business in science as a career. Through its activities and programs, it seeks to hone club participants' analytical skills, and guide them to develop a framework to evaluate and solve problems, and make balanced decisions. Club meetings will include case studies, consulting panels and workshops, interview preparation, and more. For more information, click here.
