The Summer Research Fellowship (SURF) at Scripps Florida is an NSF-funded Research Experience for Undergraduates. The 10-week summer program provides a mentored research experience at one of the top graduate research institutions in the country.
The Scripps Research Institute in Florida has a research focus that integrates cutting-edge bioscience research with the development of chemical tools to probe these biological questions. Furthermore, our medicinal chemistry programs are highly translational. Students can join any of our six departments, Cancer Biology, Chemistry, Infectious Diseases, Metabolism and Aging, Molecular Therapeutics, and Neuroscience, where they will work at the interface of chemistry and biology.
In addition to their research, students participate in weekly professional development meetings, which provide mentorship on writing graduate school applications, and hone scientific presentation skills. The program culminates with a campus-wide poster session, where participants compete for one of three travel awards to a national scientific meeting.
Students must be enrolled in a US institution to apply. Ideal candidates are rising juniors and seniors. The Scripps Florida REU provides participants with a stipend and housing.
Applications including at least two letters of reference are due by February 15. Applicants will be notified of their acceptance in early March.
