Summer Undergraduate Research
Scripps Research invites applications from college undergraduates who are pursuing studies in the chemical and biological sciences and are interested in performing cutting-edge research in one of our state-of-the-art laboratories.
Our ten-week Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) program is held on our La Jolla, California campus and offers students the opportunity to experience research with and be mentored by our world-renowned faculty. All participants receive a stipend and housing. A similar program is offered on UF Scripps Biomedical Research’s Jupiter, Florida campus. Undergraduates interested in participating in the Scripps Research SURF program can find more information and apply here or at the link above.
PROGRAM GOALS
The goals of Scripps Research's summer undergraduate research programs are to:
- Enable program participants to feel comfortable in a laboratory setting and increase their research skills;
- Teach participants to think critically about the theory and application of biomedical research;
- Increase the participants’ proficiency in communicating scientific concepts; and
- Expand the number of students considering careers in biomedical research who have limited research opportunities at their home institution or are first-generation college students.
FUNDING
The Scripps Research SURF program is made possible in part by funding support from the National Science Foundation. (Award No. 2150537, REU Site: Scripps Structure and Function Summer Institute (SFSI))
