How many students apply?
In 2014, we received 202 applications and accepted 18 students in California and 13 students in Florida.

How will I know if my transcript or letters of recommendations have arrived?
Transcripts and other collateral are uploaded to your application within two days of arrival. You can view your application status in the online system.

Can I send an unofficial transcript?
Yes. We will accept an unofficial transcript; however, it must be clear and legible.

Do letters of recommendation and/or transcripts need to be submitted through the online application system?
No, letters and transcripts can be sent directly to the Office of Graduate Studies, 10550 North Torrey Pines Road, TRY-10, La Jolla, CA, 92037. Send all documents to this address irrespective of campus preference.

How will I know when my application is complete?
You can check the online system for the status of your application. You will receive an email notification indicating that your application is complete.

When is the application deadline?
The application deadline is February 15 every year. The selection committee begins reviewing applications after the deadline. We do not have rolling admissions.

I am an international student. Can I apply to the SURF Program?
International students who will receive a degree from a US college or university are eligible. For more information about work authorization options, click here. International students studying abroad are not eligible for the program.

May I participate part-time or take summer classes?
No, students are required to participate full-time in the program.
