When is the application deadline?
The application deadline for the 2018 summer program is Friday, March 2, 2018 at 11:59 p.m. Each year, the selection committee begins reviewing applications after the deadline. Late applications will NOT be considered.

How many students apply each year?
Each year, we receive approximately 150 applications from students throughout Palm Beach County.

Which grade levels are eligible?
Students who will enter their junior (11th grade) or senior (12th grade) year after the summer program are eligible.

Is there an age requirement?
Yes, all students must be age 16 or older by the program's start date (the first Monday) to be eligible for the program. There are no exceptions to this requirement.

May I participate part-time or take summer classes?
No, all students are required to participate full time (40 hours per week) in the program and must be available for the entire eight-week period.

May students outside of Palm Beach County apply for this program?
The summer internship program on TSRI's Florida campus is open only to students attending high school in Palm Beach County. Students need not reside in Palm Beach County, but they must be enrolled in a high school within the county.

I live far from the Scripps campus. Is transportation and/or housing available?
Students must arrange for daily transportation to and from the Scripps Florida campus in Jupiter. The Scripps Research Institute is unable to provide transportation or housing arrangements for high school program participants.

What type of transcripts do I need to provide?
Unofficial transcripts are acceptable. You do not need to obtain the official or sealed transcripts. If your school provides transcripts in a sealed envelope, you may open the envelope, scan them to a single PDF file and upload the PDF file via the online application system.

What information should I include on my statement of goals, and how long should it be?
The statement of goals should describe your research interests, experience, education goals, career objectives and any information which may aid the selection process. It can be any length you desire.

Do I need to get recommendation letters from my teachers?
No, you will not collect recommendations letters. However, the online application requires you to provide us with the names and email addresses for at least TWO teacher references who are most familiar with your scientific skills, academic accomplishments and motivations to pursue this type of experience. STEM (science, technology, engineering or math) teachers are highly recommended. Once you provide us your teacher names, we will contact them to inquire about your preparedness for this program. We strongly suggest deciding which teachers will serve as your references and obtaining their email addresses before you begin completing the online application.

Do I need to submit all of my supporting documents at the same time?
No, you may complete your application and submit your documents in several steps, if you wish. Once you have completed the online application, you will receive detailed instructions (usually within one week) regarding how to upload the necessary supplemental documents to a secure server. However, *all* documents should be submitted by the application deadline or your application may not be considered. 

IMPORTANT TIP: To expedite the processing of your application, please provide your supplemental materials in PDF format and please provide separate PDFs for each supplemental document. Please do not scan and upload all of your documents in a single, combined PDF file. Uploading each document as a separate PDF assists us in quickly determining when your application is complete, so we may begin sharing your information with our faculty review committee sooner.
