About the Graduate School

The Skaggs Graduate School of Chemical and Biological Sciences at Scripps Research offers graduate training in six programs including dual degree programs with Florida Atlantic University, University of California, San Diego, and the University of Oxford, in addition to the traditional Ph.D. program. Approximately 300 Ph.D. students are enrolled across the various programs, working with more than 150 graduate program faculty.

Consistently ranked among the top 10 in the nation, the Doctoral Program in Chemical and Biological Sciences immerses graduate students in intensive laboratory research from day one. World-renowned faculty impart knowledge and expertise as mentors and advisors. Students customize their course curriculum to match individual research interests while exploring multidisciplinary topics at the interface of chemistry and biology.

The dual Skaggs-Oxford Program offers students the opportunity to explore a research project from both the chemical or biological perspective at Scripps Research, and the biochemical perspective at the University of Oxford.

The Translational Research for Doctoral Students (TL1) program applies knowledge from basic biology and uses techniques and tools in biostatistics, genomics, and clinical investigation to address critical medical questions.

The K Scholars Program in Mentored Translational Research is aimed at early-career postdoctoral (MD, PhD, DDS, DVM, PharmD, etc.) candidates who have discovered a passion for research and have a desire to translate scientific discoveries or technologic innovations into meaningful human health and clinical practice interventions.

The M.D./Ph.D. Program with Florida Atlantic University is an eight-year program that provides academically strong students the opportunity to earn both a M.D. and a Ph.D. in the chemical and biological sciences. (Jupiter, Florida)

The Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP) is an NIH-funded dual-degree program with the University of California, San Diego, designed for highly qualified students interested in careers in academic medicine and/or translational research. (La Jolla, California)
