Kenan Fellows Undergraduate Internship Program

Students who previously participated in the Kenan Fellows Summer High School Internship Program on Scripps Research's Jupiter, Florida campus have the opportunity to return to the Florida campus as undergraduates for a longer, more research-intensive summer experience. The 10-week program provides a highly interdisciplinary mentored research experience at the interface of chemistry and biology.

The Kenan Fellows Undergraduate program runs concurrently with the SURF and REU programs. Participants of all three programs complete the same online application, attend the same seminars and events, and perform laboratory research during the same time period.

The Kenan Fellows Undergraduate Internship Program broadly explores 1). chemical reactivity and diversity as tools to probe biochemical structure and function, and 2). the connection of molecular and cellular structure with complex organismal phenomena such as aging, metabolism, learning and memory.

In addition to the research experience, weekly seminars by faculty introduce participants to current research endeavors at Scripps Florida. Seminars with Scripps graduate students and postdoctoral fellows will explore issues such as choosing a graduate school and mentor, graduate school applications, graduate student life and career paths in science. At the culmination of the program, participants produce a research poster and present their work in an institute-wide poster competition. The program also provides a number of social activities to foster interaction among students, their mentors and members of Scripps' research community.

Participants will receive a $5,000 stipend for the 10-week program based on a standard 40-hour work week. If needed, housing is provided either on the adjacent Florida Atlantic University campus or at a similar location.

June 6 to Aug. 12, 2022 (10 weeks)

All participants must start and end on the specified dates and must complete 10 weeks.
