Paul Cognata, MA, MSW

Associate Director of Graduate Studies


Role: Paul Cognata serves as Associate Director of Graduate Studies at The Scripps Research Institute. In this role, he promotes the educational goals and strategic priorities of the Graduate Program. His responsibilities include providing support and guidance to graduate students, monitoring academic progress, managing student records, developing and revising program policies and procedures, overseeing student clubs and organizations, and initiating community-building activities.

Background: Paul holds a master’s degree in clinical social work and a master’s degree in the humanities and social thought, both from New York University, as well as two bachelor’s degrees from the University of Connecticut, in Italian and music. Prior to joining the Office of Graduate Studies at The Scripps Research Institute, Paul served as Assistant Dean in the School of Health and Medical Sciences at Seton Hall University in New Jersey, and previously in various advising roles at New York University.
