
Rick Crouse, PhD
Role: Rick Crouse manages the internship and outreach programs for the Office of Graduate Studies at Scripps Research. In this capacity, he oversees the Summer Undergraduate Research Fellows (SURF-REU) and high school summer internship programs, which includes recruitment, content development, and program evaluation. He also supports Scripps Research community members in designing and implementing STEM outreach and science communication initiatives for local K-12 students and families.
Background: Before joining Scripps Research, Crouse led Yale University’s coordinated STEM outreach infrastructure, welcoming local public school students to campus for hands-on science activities, immersive workshops, and laboratory internships. He has a decade of experience designing and implementing programs that engage and empower the next generation of scientists. Crouse earned his bachelor’s degree in Cell and Molecular Biology from the University of South Florida and has a PhD in Neuroscience from Yale University. Before graduate school, he worked at a biotechnology company focused on cancer drug delivery.
