Welcome!

To answer the world’s most perplexing scientific questions, you need a broad background, fearless thinking and top-notch skills. Here at Scripps Research, we apply that standard to education programs that reach just about every age and stage of scientists-in-training.

The Skaggs Graduate School of Chemical and Biological Sciences, consistently ranked one of the top 10 in the nation, will prepare you to launch your career. Our program encourages interdisciplinary research within a challenging curriculum that is customized to support your specific research interests. From day one, we expect you to get your hands wet in the lab, where you’ll work side by side with some of today’s most brilliant scientists—MacArthur Fellows, Wolf Prize winners and Nobel laureates.

Our student body brings together scholars from liberal arts colleges, regional state colleges and major research universities around the globe. Our inclusive program has a clear track record of training students to become independent research scientists who can identify and tackle the next big question.

Postdocs from our program go on to influential positions around the world. More than 100 of our alumni are in tenure-track positions at universities and colleges; others are leaders in biotech and pharma—an abundance of career paths awaits the inquisitive mind. To guide our trainees, our pioneering Career and Professional Development Office provides an expansive menu of seminars and workshops to help you polish your professional skills and make connections with potential employers.

College undergrads join our labs each year for summer internships and longer academic year programs that provide the mentorship and hands-on lab experience that is vital as they prepare for graduate school.

Whether you join us in pursuit of your doctoral degree, as a summer intern, or at any other step on your path toward scientific knowledge, we know you will find it a rewarding—and often rigorous—experience. If you’re up to that challenge, we can’t wait to meet you.
