Chemical Biology I - CHBIO440

Provides a broad overview of the fields of bio-organic chemistry and chemical biology

Course Directors: Michael Erb and Luke Lairson
Term: Fall
Credits: 3.0

COURSE DESCRIPTION
This is a 3-credit course designed to give a broad overview of the fields of bio-organic chemistry and chemical biology. We discuss the structure and chemistry of the major classes of biomolecules (protein, nucleic acids, carbohydrates and lipids). We cover some modern methods of chemical biology, including evolutionary strategies in protein engineering, activity-based protein profiling, and mass-spectrometry-based proteomics. We also describe modern methods of drug discovery for both small molecule and biologic drugs.
