Tanner Jankins, Ph.D.

Doctoral Thesis: A renaissance in tungsten catalysis enables alkene isomerization-functionalization reactions
Research Focus:
Jankins’ research focuses on a new tungsten redox catalysis strategy for the selective isomerization and functionalization of alkenes.
Undergraduate Institution:
Northeastern University
Noteworthy Publications: Low-Valent Tungsten Catalysis Enables Site-Selective Isomerization–Hydroboration of Unactivated Alkenes, Journal of the American Chemical Society (2021)
Looking Back: "I really enjoyed having a supportive advisor who pushed me to take risks in my research and explore new areas of organometallic chemistry and catalysis. Of course I couldn't have had made it without all the amazing friends I made throughout Scripps and all of the fun times we had in San Diego."
Next Steps: "I moved to Switzerland where my son was born in early April. I am currently doing a postdoc at ETH Zurich with Bill Morandi and look forward to exploring this new country with my family."

Be sure to watch our 2022 Commencement Ceremony video, recorded live on Friday, May 20, 2022. In addition to the conferral of doctoral degrees for our newest class of graduates, the event features a special presentation by recent Nobel Laureate Prof. Ardem Patapoutian.
