Admissions

Scripps Research's doctoral program requires highly motivated individuals who thrive on challenges. There are no specific prerequisites; however, applicants should demonstrate good undergraduate training in the biomedical sciences or a related field and a strong commitment to research.

The program is bicoastal and applications are reviewed by an admissions committee composed of faculty from both the Florida and California locations. As a result, applicants may receive an offer of admission from one or both admissions committees. To be considered for admission, applicants must interview at the location from which they wish to gain admission. Admission standards are the same for both La Jolla, CA and Jupiter, FL, as well as the joint Skaggs-Oxford Program, and the Florida Atlantic University-Scripps Florida MD/PhD Program.

NEW! On Friday, October 13 we hosted a live chat with our faculty, admissions committee staff, and current graduate students, during our annual Graduate Program Virtual Open House! Watch the videos from this event HERE.

FLORIDA CAMPUS UPDATE
Scripps Research and the University of Florida (UF), a top-10 public university, completed the integration of Scripps Research's Jupiter, Florida campus (“Scripps Florida”) into the University of Florida’s academic health center, UF Health, in April 2022. The new campus, The Herbert Wertheim UF Scripps Institute for Biomedical Innovation & Technology, combines both organizations’ complementary strengths in biomedical research and education. All graduate students who choose to work with investigators at the Wertheim UF Scripps Institute are enrolled in and receive degrees from Scripps Research's Skaggs Graduate School of Chemical and Biological Sciences, which continues to oversee bicoastal coursework and research training throughout students' doctoral studies.
