Ke Yang, Ph.D.

Advisor: Peter E. Wright, Ph.D.

Doctoral Thesis: Structural Mechanisms and Dynamics in Hematopoietic Transcription Pathways
Undergraduate Institution: Tsinghua University
Noteworthy Publications: Structural basis for cooperative regulation of KIX-mediated transcription pathways by the HTLV-1 HBZ activation domain," Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (2018)
Favorite Aspects of Graduate Studies: "My favorite part of my experience here as a graduate student at Scripps would be how dedicated and open to collaboration we are as a scientific community. Another favorite aspect would have to be working with the state-of-the-art instruments we have in the Structural Biology department - it's really been great."
Next Steps: "I have transitioned to intellectual property law, and am currently working as a scientific analyst at Morrison & Foerster, LLP. My skills acquired as a graduate student at Scripps are directly transferable to my new role, in that I'm still actively using the scientific knowledge, as well as reading, writing, analytical thinking and communication skills to help with my new role in the patent law field. In five to ten years, I see myself having gone to law school and becoming a patent attorney. It's still a long way from here, but we'll see how it works out. I'm very excited for it."

Be sure to join us at 10 a.m. PDT on Friday, July 31 for our Virtual Commencement Ceremony! Yang's advisor and mentor, Prof. Peter E. Wright, will deliver a few words (as will Derosa) about her graduate experience, and viewers can learn about our 43 other 2020 graduates, who are now setting out to build careers that will impact the future of biomedical research.
