Kyle McClymont, Ph.D.

Advisor: Phil S. Baran, Ph.D.

Doctoral Thesis: Carboxylic Acids as Enabling Motifs in Synthesis
Undergraduate Institution: University of Ottawa
Noteworthy Publications: Total Synthesis of (−)-Maximiscin, Journal of the American Chemical Society (2020)
Honors & Awards: Fletcher Jones Fellowship (2015-16); Bristol Myers Squibb Graduate Student Fellowship (2019-20)
Favorite Aspects of Graduate Studies: McClymont said that what he valued most about his graduate experience was, "the people, the commitment to excellence, and the fact that everyone I worked with in the lab really cared about science and wanted to do their best. It's a 'work hard, play hard' atmosphere. We worked hard in the lab Monday through Saturday and on Saturday night, we went wild. (laughs) That was a consistent theme and something I really appreciated about the crew at Scripps."
Next Steps: "Since completing my PhD I have moved to San Francisco and am currently working at Merck developing new small molecule therapeutics to improve human health."

Be sure to join us at 10 a.m. PDT on Friday, May 21 for our Virtual Commencement Ceremony! MyClymont's advisor and mentor, Prof. Phil Baran, will deliver a few words about his graduate experience (as will McClymont), and viewers can learn about our 41 other 2021 graduates, who are now setting out to build careers that will impact the future of biomedical research.
