Tracey "Liz" Bailey, Ph.D.
Doctoral Thesis: Interrogating the Role of the Monocarboxylate Transporter 1 (MCT1) in Glucose Homeostasis
Undergraduate Institution: University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
Noteworthy Publications: A Nonradioactive High-Throughput Screening-Compatible Cell-Based Assay to Identify Inhibitors of the Monocarboxylate Transporter Protein 1 , ASSAY and Drug Development Technologies (2019)
Honors and Awards: American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics (ASPET) Washington Fellow (2018)
Favorite Aspects of Graduate Studies: "My favorite part about working with Dr. McDonald and my graduate studies in general was the freedom to follow the science. Often, experiments that yield unexpected results lead to surprising discoveries and having the support and flexibility to see those discoveries through has been an incredible experience."
Next Steps: Bailey has accepted a position as a Postdoctoral Researcher at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, FL in the Department of Cancer Physiology. She hopes to work toward novel therapeutics for the treatment of obesity-related cancers.
Be sure to join us at 10 a.m. PDT on Friday, May 21 for our Virtual Commencement Ceremony! Bailey's advisor and mentor, Prof. Patricia McDonald, will deliver a few words about her graduate experience (as will Bailey), and viewers can learn about our 41 other 2021 graduates, who are now setting out to build careers that will impact the future of biomedical research.
