Favorite Aspects of Graduate Studies: "My favorite part of the Scripps experience was surfing at Blacks on most days. In terms of academics, I could not be happier that I chose to study at Scripps because the approach to training future scientists is so practical and focused. I never had to worry about anything except my research and education. I ran experiments from my first day until my last. Most importantly, I learned chemistry from the brightest and most driven department I could ever imagine. No regrets!"
Next Steps: "In July 2020 I accepted a Research Scientist position in the Medicinal Chemistry department at Gilead Sciences in the Bay Area. I aspire to learn how to be a drug hunter and to be part of a team that brings a life-saving medication into the clinic. I currently live in San Francisco and have traded the warm, mellow waters of San Diego for the cold, harsh, unforgiving beast that is Ocean Beach."
Be sure to join us at 10 a.m. PDT on Friday, May 21 for our Virtual Commencement Ceremony! Stratton's advisor and mentor, Prof. Phil Baran, will deliver a few words about his graduate experience (as will Stratton), and viewers can learn about our 41 other 2021 graduates, who are now setting out to build careers that will impact the future of biomedical research.
