Norjin Zolboot, PhD
Doctoral Thesis: Re-engineering the Molecular Toolbox to Dissect MicroRNA Mechanisms of Neural Development
Research Focus: Zolboot developed molecular tools for manipulating microRNAs and their mRNA targets with vastly improved spatial and temporal resolution and discovered novel microRNA roles underlying cerebellar Purkinje cell development.
Undergraduate Institution: Nagoya University
Noteworthy Publications: MicroRNAs Instruct and Maintain Cell Type Diversity in the Nervous System, Frontiers in Molecular Neuroscience (2021); MicroRNAs are necessary for the emergence of Purkinje cell identity, (Preprint article, 2023)
Honors and Awards: Autism Speaks Predoctoral Fellowship (2021-2023); Dorris Scholar Award (2020-2021)
Looking Back: "I am so grateful for all the mentors I have had during graduate school: my advisor who encouraged me at every step of the way, my colleagues in the Lippi lab who were always eager to help out, and the lifelong friends I have made through the program."
Next Steps: "I look forward to applying the skillset and knowledge I gained in graduate school to the RNA therapeutics field."
Join us at 10 a.m. PDT on Friday, May 17, 2024 for our Commencement Ceremony Livestream! Zolboot wil be introduced by her thesis committee chair, Prof. Ian J. MacRae, who will deliver a few words about her graduate experience. Viewers will also learn about our many other 2024 graduates, who are now setting out to build careers that will profoundly impact the future of biomedical research.
